One great way to do something with your car if you aren't really into drag racing is the Super Chevy Show autocross. The speeds are lower and if you happen to hit a cone, it won't mess up the car. Well, a little cone rash might show up, but that is easily cured with some cleaner wax. The course at the Texas Motorplex was set up and run by the Texas Region of the SCCA, to whom we are grateful. After a stellar event in Virginia, the Super Chevy Show series headed west for the wide-open spaces of the Lone Star State and the Texas Motorplex in Ennis, Texas, for the third show of the season. Gabrielle Stevenson and the crew at Billy Meyer's track had been working feverishly to promote the show, adding a two-day autocross, a Saturday morning cruise to the track, and a Texas-style barbecue and concert after the show awards Saturday.

The Super Chevy Show series will conclude its 30th anniversary season with two of its final four races out west, the first scheduled for Friday, August 20 to Sunday, August 22 at Bandimere Speedway near Denver, Colorado. In front of a packed grandstand at Virginia Motorsports Park, Tim Harper proved that the '55 Chevy is still a force on street or strip at the 30th anniversary Super Chevy Show in Petersburg. He drove his F-2 ProCharged, 515-inch, two-door sedan to a dominant victory in the Super Chevy magazine True Street Challenge, averaging 8.72 seconds over the course of three runs after a 20-mile drive through the beautiful countryside surrounding the track.

After our dance in the desert at Las Vegas, the Super Chevy Show series headed east to birthplace of the Confederacy and Virginia Motorsports Park for some action in Lee's backyard. Editor Campisano and I arrived in town the day before to shoot an upcoming feature for the magazine, and when we awoke Saturday morning, rainy craptastic weather greeted us through the hotel windows. An inauspicious beginning to an event weekend to be sure, but the two of us loaded up and headed for the track, knowing a little rain couldn't keep the Bow Tie fanatics at home.

PAH III has a new home! Pelican Products founder, and last year's PAH winning bidder Dave Parker got to take home our LSA powered 1970 Chevelle for a whopping $250,000 at the Barrett-Jackson Orange County auction in Costa Mesa, California.

Whether you're watching baseball, football or auto racing, it's always nice to be up close to the action. The closer you get the more you realize the speed, precision, and drama uunfolding. And nowhere is the action hotter than at one of NASCAR's biggest tracks, Daytona International Speedway.
